His reputation preceding him, Lou Gehrig enrolled at Columbia University as a standout athlete on both the diamond and gridiron. This 1923 edition of The Columbian hails from Gehrig's sophomore year at the renowned institution. The 540-page volume details various school and extracurricular activities. Gehrig's name appears in the fraternity section, as he pledged Phi Delta Theta as a freshman. While Gehrig was scouted by the New York Yankees (as a pitcher, no less) in 1923, he does not appear in this edition's baseball section, as he was ineligible for intercollegiate play during his freshman year. The book is incredibly preserved with covers and all pages intact and minimal spine wear/corner bumping.
